Peiting, Germany - Construction of a new expansion for ept GmbH in Peiting is underway. The connector manufacturer is increasing its working area by 4,600 m², spread over two floors. “Our old premises in Peiting can no longer handle the strong growth in the number of employees, which increased by 37 percent in the last three years alone. An expansion was urgently needed,” explains Thomas Guglhör, managing director of ept, during the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony on Monday 2 July 2018. The original plant in Buching was expanded by 2,500 m² in 2013, and new buildings were constructed in Habartov, Czech Republic and Chesterfield, U.S. in 2017. Now more working space is being added to the main plant in Peiting.
The new plant construction will expand the ground floor stamping workshop and warehouse by around 3,100 m². The upper floor will house a modern training workshop, the first-ever cafeteria, and other office and meeting rooms. The remaining 300 m² will go to an office supply room and a server room. The new areas are being constructed with an elevator and no thresholds to facilitate disability access. The family business is investing six million euros in the project. “One of our priorities this time was to create a workplace with optimal accessibility.
The new expansion will also be sustainably operated in line with our usual practices at ept,” says Bernhard Guglhör, founder and shareholder of ept GmbH, alluding to the extensive measures previously taken to shift over to renewable energy. The expansion will be completed by fall 2019.
“The project schedule is very ambitious. But we need the new working space as soon possible, given that the demand on the market for our connectors has been increasing for years.”
The old employee parking lot in front of Hall F has been relocated to a space on the other side of the street leased by the municipality of Peiting in order to make way for the expansion. “The new parking lot has enough spaces for all current and new employees. Also, the new employee entrance is on the other side of the building, on Pürschlingstrasse, providing quick access,” says Thomas Guglhör.
And the managing director is already thinking ahead: Planning has begun for a new truck docking station and the addition of four more lanes for strip electroplating (for which there are currently three lanes), which will put the final touches on the plant in the near future.
